Organizing your jewelry

Most women I know have collected a large stock of costume jewelry over the years.  Their treasures are usually kept in numerous boxes or drawers (which is not ideal since they can get tangled easily).  It’s neither ideal to plonk all your pieces together.  Imagine having to rummage through all your jewelry to find a particular ring, bracelet, brooch, necklace or pair of earrings.  Bearing this in mind, the first step towards organizing your jewelry is to separate all your pieces into piles of rings, bracelets, necklaces and so forth.  That’s the easy part.  Finding a place to store the different pieces is the more difficult bit.

Rings and earrings

Perspex jewelry containers is a good option for ring storage since they tend to have small compartments.  However, they are not the best options for other, larger pieces of jewelry, including chunky and long earrings  (click on the link to view box) http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/636665908/perspex_jewelry_box.html.

Nonetheless, you can buy an acrylic tray (as shown below) and dedicate an entire drawer to rings and smaller jewelry items including earrings and dainty bracelets.

Necklaces and bracelets

The most problematic jewelry items for storage are necklaces.  Yes you can sort them according to size and place them into different boxes (as I mentioned) however you also need to find a place to store all the boxes and necklaces can get damaged and tangled in boxes.  A good idea is to buy a small closet with hooks so that you can hang all your necklaces, as well as bracelets, accordingly.  Although this option is a rather expensive one (see the first and second pictures), there are a number of foreign companies who sell these jewelry closets.

Here are a few examples of expensive and cheap ways to store necklaces, bangles and bracelets.

You can also have a custom-built jewelry closet and incorporate it with a custom-built wall-to-wall wardrobe.  Thumbs up for this brill idea.

Alternatively, you can simply buy one of these hanging jewelry organizers and hang it in your wardrobe.  Though, if you’re like me,  you may need quite a few of these to hang up all your necklaces :).  Still, I think this is a good, cheap solution.

If you have a spare wall in a walk-in-closet, you can simply buy small rails or hooks, affix them to the wall and voila, you have your own custom-designed jewelry organizer.  This option works well for necklaces, bracelets and bangles.  What do you think?  Call in the hubby for this small DIY job 🙂

So, among these options which ones do you like the best?  Which would work out for you?

Cheers,

Miriam
